Why gay pride month is important

Last year, 2020, due to being in the middle of a pandemic, Pride celebrations, at least here in California were virtual. I, on the other hand had a hard time finding socks that matched, let alone a reason to get dressed up at all or even leave my all-in-one house/office/home entertainment center/nest of pillows and blankets and dirty laundry. Granted this past year some of you were really on top of your mask game-I mean, you had the color of your mask matching your shirt or dress. And seeing smiles on someone outside your household? Masks have effectively taken care of that. It has been over a year since we have been able to gather as one and feel the energy of a crowd due to the global pandemic of COVID. Crowds? Smiles? Adult Beverages? Record player?

If this were a voiceover for a bad 90s period dramedy this is the moment when you’d hear the screech of a record player needle being pulled off of a record.

Whenever I hear those words (Gay Pride, not Wikipedia), I think of Gay Pride celebrations, festive floats, bright colors, rainbow flags, music blasting, dancing in the streets, crowds of people cheering, most holding an adult beverage, smiles across all faces.
